My commission book is currently closed, as I am unable to fill all the requests I receive. Any future offerings for commissions will be offered first to members of my yahoo group. To join, please click here. It's free!
Since I am not in a position to accept commissions, I do not like to post rates. If repair work is needed, please contact me personally for an estimate. Thank you.
I will consider repairing damaged models on a case by case basis. Please contact me personally with a description of the model and damage. I would prefer to have the option to fix the horse myself, as my style may not match the style of another person willing to do the repair.
Absolutely! Please feel free to use them for showing, selling or sharing your collection. I usually mark them with an URL and I ask that you leave that on there. Be sure to download them directly to your computer. Hot linking (linking photos from this website) is stealing bandwidth and will not be tolerated.
There are many resources for the beginner. I highly recommend RESS as a great resource. And a wonderful guide to get you started, "Color Formulas and Techniques", is available from Rio Rondo.
I'm so glad you asked! Prepping is an art form in itself. I have rarely received a prepped piece that I found satisfactory. I have written an in depth article, which was published in RESS' "Technique Book 3" and you are most welcome to read it:
Prepping Instructions in PDF format, 388 KB
I work primarily in pastel finish work and acrylic hand painting. You can learn more about my techniques in the instructional DVDs
Finished work may be sold via lottery, auction, or to the first interested party. I post all pieces that I have painted to my yahoo group, as well as to the sales page of this website. I occasionally also have miscellaneous items for sale, which may also be posted to the Model Horse Sales Pages.
I strive to create an exciting piece for the NAN auction every year. Unfortunately, I am unable to donate to other shows at this time.
RESS is the Realistic Equine Sculpture Society, an organization for equine artists. Visit their website at http://ress.org
VARA is the Visual Artists' Rights Act. It gives artists protection for their limited edition art work. Out of respect for other artists, it is important to ask before making any alterations to their work, this includes repair work, customizing resins and adding markings or details to someone else's work. I ask that you please inquire before making alterations, repairs or "improvements" to any piece I have created. Thank you! Read more about VARA at this Harvard Law website.
I started receiving requests to videotape footage of the pastel seminars I have taught and realized there is a void of visual instruction for the equine artist. I've spent the past year working out the bugs in the digital portion of creating these DVDs and am anxious to get these DVDs under way. Read more about them here.
I found it so frustrating when models arrive broken due to poor packing, so I wrote an article for RESS' The Boat and offer it to you here: Proper Packing Techniques in PDF format, 27 KB
My sales policies are as follows:
SHIPPING/INSURANCE
- Unless specified, shipping is not included in the price. (If an item is sold postage paid (ppd), it includes first class or parcel post shipping within the continental US, but does not include postal insurance.)
- I will ship overseas. Note that I declare full value on all packages, it's the law.
- Insurance is optional on most items, and is highly recommended. I will not be responsible for what happens once it has been mailed.
PAYMENT METHODS
- I accept money orders and Pay Pal. When using Paypal, please let me know if it will be through direct transfer or with credit card so that I can provide you with the correct payment information. Please specify how you will be making payment when contacting me to hold an item for you.
TIME PAYMENTS
- I will consider time payments, with good references, unless specified otherwise. Terms are generally 3 equal payments every 30 days on purchases over $100 with the first payment non-refundable. Please let me know up front if you are interested in making time payments. Time payments must be made by money order or non-credit card Paypal only.
HOLDS
- Items are held for a limited time pending a non-refundable deposit or payment in full. Please do not ask me to hold something if you are not serious about buying. Thank you!
TRADES
- Trades are considered only for items on my wish list
All sales are final. Thank you for your consideration.
Not much really. I prefer to refer to my artwork as Feldman Studio and my personal collection as Storybook Stable. All horses are still painted by me, I just choose to distinguish them as such. I have used Storybook Stable since high school, aptly named as my parents live in Storybook Highlands subdivision, and I happen to love to read. Reading was essentially my first introduction to horses. And I figured it was fitting for a model horse stable, since they are a version of story-telling in their own way.
My commission book is currently closed, but I like to keep my policies handy. They are as follows:
PAYMENT TERMS
I require a non-refundable deposit to hold your commission slot, with the balance due upon completion.
If at any point payments cannot be made, notify me immediately. If additional payments beyond the deposit have been made: 1) the model may be completed and upon sale of the model, 75% of all payments made will be refunded up to resale value of the model; or 2) I reserve the right to refund payments made after the non-refundable deposit.
Prices quoted due not include the model to be customized or postal shipping/insurance. I accept money orders and Pay Pal as forms of payment. Trades are occasionally considered for items on my wish list, which can be found here.
All commissions are non-transferable. That means you cannot sell your painting slot, half finished horse, etc. to a third party. If you are unable to complete payments refer to the above.
HAPPILY EVERY AFTER POLICY I would like every ending to be a happy one. In order to insure this, I take photos of the work in progress for your approval. This is done on repositioned or altered models when they are in primer (before painting), and again on completion. For repainted only pieces, I will send a picture upon completion. I will change pieces to your specifications to the best of my ability, within reason. Please keep in mind that colors may appear differently on different computer monitors and in person. I can not guarantee an exact color match. Should the end result not meet your expectations, let me know within 7 days, and an arrangement will be made.
DERIVITIVE WORKS & COLLABORATIONS Please note I will no longer paint models previously repositioned/altered by another artist nor will I sculpt/alter pieces to be painted by someone else. If I will be altering a resin, I need written permission from the sculpting artist. (see VARA) REPAIRS & TOUCH UPS When a model I have created is damaged and in need of repair, I prefer to have the opportunity to restore it. If I am unable to at that time, I will try to provide references for you. I do not allow touch up work or alterations to my finish work without my consent.
COPYCATS Please do not ask me to reproduce another artist's work; this is unfair to the original artist, the owner of the model, and myself. I also prefer not to duplicate work that I have already done on another model. Variations are fine, but please do not ask me to recreate the exact same color/pattern/position/etc. Again, I do not feel it is fair to the owner of the original piece and it stifles my ability to create. Thank you for understanding! On the same note, I do not condone the copying of my work in any scale, on plastic or resin. This includes matching paint jobs or trying to duplicate my work in any form. Please find your own unique voice in creating.
TIMELINES & DEADLINES I usually provide estimates when a model will be finished, but this is not a guarantee. If you have a show or deadline you would like me to meet, let me know and I will see what I can do based on other orders and commitments. I do not want to rush anyone's piece and provide them with an inferior model, so if my estimates are off, be patient and know that your model will be the better for it. I post progress reports regularly to StorybookStable News (Click here to join).
PARENTAL PERMISSION If you are a minor under the age of 18, please have your parents sign an agreement that they have read and understood my policies before commissioning a model.
DIGITAL IMAGES I give permission for the owners of models I created to use photos I have taken for purposes of selling, showing, or sharing their model(s). I do ask that you do not remove the website URL from the photo. Also, do not link the photos from this website - that is stealing bandwidth. If you want to use photos, you must download them onto your own computer. You can do this by right clicking on the image and saving. Thank you.
